When the monkey came flying..

Filed under: Life as I know it — Celia @ 9:14 am

As a child, I didn’t get much opportunity to have the company of a stuffed toy. If I can cite, being with two male siblings as one reason, one another would be my mom who gifted us cars, jeeps and buses as a cost saving measure.. All the three were let free to choose anything and play with it. While the older one had no fancy for toys and left it to the two of us to enjoy, we were content to make bus-station, traffic signal and create life using the toy community.

Yeah, but I can’t say that my mother had no interest in her girl kid. Once she gifted me a plastic baby only to get guillotined by my baby brother within hours. After sometime, she got me a burma-bazaar version of barbie and choppu saamaan set. I was so happy with it that I took good care of it. Be it combing her hair, or dressing her up daily. (Yeah, my mother gave me bits of clothing too).. It was so nice till my evil aunty came along with her daughter. My mother, being the thaaraala prabhuni, readily took my daughter and gave it to that girl. I don’t think I need to again mention the fact that this daughter was also guillotined. Once, when I went to my cousin’s place, I saw my doll having back twisted and one arm broken :((

There ended my passion for having a toy. Soon after, the teen years came in and we got busy in other stuff. During college, we gifted one of our roomees a stuffed dog. She liked it so much and for us, it was like a re-entry to childhood. And then, the passion of Calvin and hobbes happened. You wouldn’t believe, it really took me ages to get convinced that Hobbes is actually a stuffed toy.

Well, why am I saying all this now? Wouldn’t it have been better if I just told you that I am the proud owner of a stuffed monkey (What do I name it? hmm? Would Jiyo look cool?) that my colleague gifted to everyone when he returned from his Singapore tour. 😀 Look out of for some pics of Jiyo.
