Green Grapes !! Sour Grapes !!

Filed under: Life as I know it — Celia @ 11:03 am

Nah, am not saying about the story in which the fox tried reaching for the grapes in vain and then said “Sour grapes!!”..

I really ended up buying sour grapes :(. Had been to Food World recently and the fruits section tempted me. Went in there and the round green grapes looked inviting. Well, I wasn’t able to taste it and see as it was packaged. I bought some for ma friends and myself.

After I had returned, my friends tried tasting it, and boy!! you should have seen the look on their faces!! They almost asked me, “why am taking all these risks of buying fruits” 😦

But then, one another suggested this.

1) Never buy grapes without tasting a sample.
2) Don’t give in to round grapes. Look for cylindrical ones.
3) More the green, more sour it is.. Look for light green ones or ones that have a yellowish tinge.

That was a good lesson. Wasn’t it? Anyway, I did miss learning some other thing. What to do with the sour grapes? Have you ever bought grapes like this? What did you do with it then?

  1. maybe if you put the bundle in the rice mootai for a couple of days… we used to climb and pluck ‘seethapazham’ in the neighborhood and ripen it this way 25 yrs ago 🙂

  2. why cant you try out black grapes. They are always sweeter that the green one. If you ever had a chance to go to cumbum(theni dt), you can buy grapes without even implementing your friend’s suggestion. Those areas are known for their grapes. You can take risk there & not in chennai(you cant trust anything here).

ps: green grapes are not always sour.

  3. I’ve never done anything to the ready to eat grapes beside eating them as is. However, for those un-ripe ones, I pickle them. http://khatiyakorner.wordpress.com/2009/06/18/pickled-green-grape-final-product/
