Why not?

Filed under: Life as I know it — Celia Rexselin @ 5:10 pm

Just an observation..

I have seen girls holding hands and walking together..

At times, they would be having their hands on their friend’s shoulders and conversing..

Likewise, couples hold hands and walk together…

Why is the same not true with guys?

I have seen guys having their hands on the friends shoulders.. but they never hold hands…

  1. something to do with being together vs independence??

  4. @Sujit- Does it mean that men prefer being independent when he is with a man and dependent when he is with a woman?

    @Babu- yosicheenga seri.. But whyynnu sollaliye.

    About the other question, YES. We have done that. Not only that. We have also slept on the same berth while travelling in trains!!! (oru student last minutela reservation illaaama vandhiduchu)

    @thetalkativeman- Oh oh!! I never thought about this!!
    Does this mean, that the guy’s hand is only meant for the partner?

  11. @Sujit- Nor do I know why!!.. Its for you people to answer πŸ™‚

    @ramses- Yeah!! this is a very trivial phenomena that is hardly noticed.. and yet.. it beats me πŸ˜‰

    @ashok- Male psyche??

    @Harish- hmm.. yeah I too didnt think about it. But in India, this culture is yet to happen and still guys dont hold hands..

    @jagan- This is becoming a rare scene these days jagan.. and yeah!! girls prefer to have something close to them.. hmm.. its in a way VERY protecting..

    @Aravind- Yeah.. This also is noticed only among 15-30 age group..

    another scene related to this:
    As I was travelling yesterday, I noticed an elderly couple walking on the main road of Anna Salai.. It was a sunny morning.. That uncle had his hands firmly holding the aunt’s hand and was walking… It was indeeed a beautiful sight!!!

  12. yup… as already pointed out, US la holding hands with another guy or putting arms around another guy, u will be termed GAY!!

  13. The Same reason why guys cant wear pink pants !!!

  14. i think it is more of a CARING attitude of girls
    like they act as mothers always and a mother holds her kid’s hand be it a boy or girl. Thats the same thing the girl exhibits to her friend or bf

    when it comes to guys.. u dont see many dad’s holding hands of their kids
    either they wud carry the kid if u ask them to hold hands

    Also in US, whether girl holds a girl or guy holds guy.. both are called GAY only.

  15. @kutti- Hmmm..

    @shivshankar- I really can’t imagine a guy wearing a pink pank… πŸ˜€

    @Sukhanya- Wow.. The best answer I ever got!!! So, altogether.. its a nature of girls to hold hands to protect someone they love…

    And when it comes to guys, they do really hold hands.. ONLY when they WANT TO PROTECT the SOMEONE who is holding their hand

    Only ever examples:
    1) A man who wants to protect his wife/lover.
    2) A brother who helps his kid sister to cross the road (Ofcourse, he frees himself immediately after crosssing)
    3) A father who lends his index finger to his kid so that the kid can hold it…

    and yeah.. I dont want to include the gay thing to this list to belittle their worth.
